Jodie | FSS & Founder

For years, I have recognized the gap that exists in mental health treatment, and I have been researching the effects of physical activity on mental illness for the past 4 years. Having experienced anxiety myself, I have personally felt the benefits and seen the results first hand.  My commitment to helping others through fitness, and to providing new avenues for mental health wellness gave way to the creation of Fitness for Mental Health.

JONi FSS

Jon has been in the fitness industry for 6 years, working mainly as a personal trainer but also facilitating group exercise and mindfulness meditation classes. He has a degree in kinesiology and health science and is a certified personal trainer, functional movement specialist and mindfulness meditation specialist.  Jon believes that the trainer-client relationship is of utmost importance and he approaches each individual client differently and based on their own needs, whether physical, mental, emotional and/or spiritual. He possesses a sense of compassion for those who suffer from mental illness that only an individual who has been directly touched by it can know. He is passionate about helping you reach your goals, whatever they may be.

LAURA i FSS

My name is Laura and I graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto in 2010. Since then, and to follow my passion for health and fitness, I obtained my personal training, fitness instructing and pre/post-natal fitness certifications. I then decided to start my own personal training business in the GTA where I travel to my client's homes, and help them with their individual fitness goals. Over these years, I have learned firsthand and through my clients how beneficial exercise is for both the physical and mental state. Fitness for Mental Health really represents what I believe in, and I couldn’t be happier to be part of an organization where I can help others experience the benefits of health and fitness programming. I work in the Mississauga, Oakville, Etobicoke and Burlington areas, and would love to meet with you to discuss your goals.

STEPHANIE i FSS

Stephanie completed her undergraduate degree, majoring in both Kinesiology and Psychology, at York University. Combining these degrees, Stephanie continued her studies at the University of Ottawa where she obtained a Masters in Human Kinetics specializing in Sport & Exercise Psychology. As a Mental Conditioning Coach, Stephanie uses a client-centered approach in her work with athletes to increase awareness and enhance performance by developing individual strategies for success. Excited to embark in her new role as Fitness Support Specialist, Stephanie will expand beyond athletes and bring her unique skillset to a wider range of people. With a passion for sports, Stephanie aims to improve her mental heath and stay fit by playing soccer, hockey, and softball.

KIM i FSS

Kim is a certified personal and group fitness trainer, with a passion for HIIT, strength training and cycling. Growing up as a dancer, she also played several other sports throughout high school including hockey, baseball and fencing. She was a captain on the Varsity Fencing Team at Queen's University, where she graduated with a BAH. Moving back home to Toronto, Kim realized the importance of regular fitness activities to maintain a positive sense of self, and positive mental health. Currently working as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor, she inspires and motivate her clients to practice mindfulness whilst being their most active and positive selves."

Casey recently graduated from Mohawk College’s Health Wellness & Fitness program with honours, and during his studies he explored in-depth the neurochemistry of addiction. Certified as a CanfitPro Personal Training Specialist, he has experience working alongside strength and conditioning coaches for both youth athletes and varsity sports teams, training individuals, as well as programming for and/or leading group fitness classes. He is passionate about, and committed to, achieving ever-greater degrees of health and wellbeing for himself and others. Friendly, enthusiastic, and energetic, he loves sharing information which he has found to be valuable as he strives to be his best possible self. When he’s not busy participating in all these previously aforementioned things, he enjoys pursuing artistic endeavours like music, animation, and writing.

Nicole i FSS

Fitness has always been a big part of my life. As a kid, I played any and every sport that I could. I played basketball and softball at a very high competitive level. I am a graduate of the Health, Wellness & Fitness program at Mohawk College. In addition, I have recently received my Mental Health First Aid Certification.

I love the idea of working hard and seeing results. All of the aforementioned have instilled in me a lifelong passion and motivation to live a healthy and active lifestyle. Unfortunately, that is not the case for everyone. It saddens me that there are so many individuals who do not see physical activity the way I do because it has brought nothing but happiness into my life. I can only hope to help change every individuals mind set to have a more positive association with physical activity. I strongly desire to one day help people reach their health and fitness goals.

ABI i FSS

As a long distance runner, I strive on living a healthy lifestyle through exercise, diet and self-discipline. My proudest moment was running my first full marathon. I also enjoy exercising in a fitness gym but I prefer to be outside in nature and enjoy staying active by doing many outdoor activities like swimming, hiking, kayaking, biking, skiing and running.

I have been working in the fitness industry for over 5 years. My experience includes personal training and instructing group fitness classes at community centres, corporate centres and private clubs.

My favourite motto is "strong body, strong mind". I believe that a strong body through exercise can help build a strong mind. I suffer from anxiety, so I know from firsthand experience, how exercise has greatly helped to improve my mood and anxiety while helping me to stay focused throughout the day.
